Companies owe VAT of crores to Gujarat govt

The Gujarat government gave the details on the companies which have not paid the tax that amounted more than Rs 10 lakh

Plenty of companies including Reliance, Essar, IOC, HPCL, L&T and other owe a huge ammount to Gujarat government as VAT or GST. The Gujarat government gave the details on the companies which have not paid the tax that amounted more than Rs 10 lakh. The issue was discussed in Gujarat assembly during the question hour and Gujarat government answered that the government had been making persistant effort to recover the taxes through the rules of the concerned acts of the tax.

The Congress MLA from Jamalpur in Ahmedabad Imran Khedavala asked the question to the finance minister on the details of the companies located in Ahmedabad and Mehsana districts which due more than Rs 10 lakh as VAT payable to Gujarat government as on December 31, 2017. The MLA also asked that what actions government took to recover the pending dues as taxes. Other MLAs also asked the same question for the companies.

Replying to the question of MLA, finance minister and deputy CM gave them set of the papers with the long list of more than one thousand companies that owed crores of rupees as tax to Gujarat government. As per the details given by Gujarat government, huge corporates and companies like Reliance, Essar, Adani, IOC, HPCL, ONGC, L&T and other owed a great amount as pending taxes.
