Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian's tenure was on Saturday extended for one more year by the Ministry of Finance.

Subramanian's three-year tenure was to end on October 16, 2017.

"CEA Dr. Arvind Subramanian will continue for one more year after completion of his 3-year tenure on 16th October, 2017." tweeted Ministry of Finance.

Last year, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had trained his guns on Arvind Subramanian and demanded his sacking. However, BJP had said that it does not agree with Swamy's views on CEA

A former IMF economist was appointed in the Finance Ministry in October 2014. An alumnus of IIM-Ahmedabad, Subramanian joined the Finance Ministry when the government had started work for the 2015-16 budget.

He was Assistant Director in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund and was associated with the GATT (1988-92) during the Uruguay Round of trade negotiations. 

Subramanian was the Dennis Weatherstone senior fellow at the Washington-based Peterson Institute for International Economics.
