Rs 200 note will have a windowed security thread with inscriptions Bharat in Devnagri and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with colour shift.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) unveiled the design of the new Rs 200 currency note on Thursday, which will be issued on Friday.
The Rs 200 note would be yellow in colour with a motif of Sanchi Stupa on the reverse, representing the country’s cultural heritage. It will also have a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre.
The new notes of Rs 200 will greatly help in narrowing the demand and supply gap in smaller-denomination currency bills.
Apart from Sanchi Stupa motif, the note on its reverse side would also bear year of printing, Swachh Bharat logo with slogan, language panel and denominational numeral २०० in Devnagari.
The dimension of the banknote will be 66 mm × 146 mm.
For those who are visually impaired, the new note will have intaglio or raised printing of Mahatma Gandhi portrait, Ashoka Pillar emblem, raised Identification mark 'H' with micro text Rs 200 and four angular bleed lines with two circles in between the lines both on the right and left sides.
The front side of the Rs 200 note would carry a guarantee clause, and RBI Governor Urjit Patel’s signature with Promise Clause and RBI emblem towards the right of Mahatma Gandhi portrait.
The front side would also boast of Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right.
Rs 200 note will have a windowed security thread with inscriptions Bharat in Devnagri and RBI with colour shift. The colour of the thread, however, will change from green to blue, when the note is tilted.
In July, the RBI had stopped printing Rs 2000 notes about five months ago and is unlikely to print more in the current financial year.
The government had on November 8 last year withdrawn the legal tender status of 500 and 1000 rupee notes to flush out blackmoney and counterfeit currency.
