Budget 2018: BJP ally Telugu Desam Party 'disappointed' with budget; claim nothing done for Andhra Pradesh

The Telugu Desam Party has said that they are ‘disappointed’ by the Union budget that was presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday.

 Minister of State (MoS) for Science and Technology and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader YS Chowdary said that several issues being faced by Andhra Pradesh had not been addressed.

Speaking to the media, Chowdary said that issues including funding for capital Amaravati and other pending issues of Andhra Pradesh were not addressed by the central government in the budget.

“We are disappointed with the Union Budget presented today. Many pressing state issues like Railway Zone, Polavaram project funding, Funding for capital Amaravati and other pending issues of Andhra Pradesh are not addressed in the budget,” the minister said.

According to a report by Bangalore Mirror, Andhra Pradesh finance minister Y Ramakrishnudu said the budget looked like a poll budget. However,  Ramakrishnudu said, "Call it an election budget or anything else, but we are happy they are addressing the real things." He said the agriculture sector has been given top priority in the budget and "there is more concentration on the rural economy and the health sector."

Jaitley allocated Rs 108 Crore for Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, 32 crore for Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (or petroleum university), Rs 10 crore for Central University, Rs 10 Cr for tribal university, Rs 54 Cr for NIT, Rs 50 Cr for IIT and made a a few other minor educational allocations.

On Saturday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) National President Nara Chandrababu Naidu hinted at breaking alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing a press conference here at the state secretariat, Naidu said, "If the BJP does not want to continue alliance then the TDP will on its own."

The CM said the TDP was still following 'Mitra Dharma' with BJP, but local BJP leaders were crossing the limits.

He, however, demanded that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government should support Andhra Pradesh until it develops equal with other states.
