The focus at the fourth edition of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) on January 16-17 would be to put up the business-friendly image of West Bengal and how it has undergone a sea-change under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. BGBS had been Mamata’s coveted event aimed at attracting investment in the state.

In the presence of business delegates from across the world, various investments done in Bengal would be highlighted along with the socially relevant programmes which the state had taken up for the upliftment of the backward class of society.

LEDs have been put up at the venue to highlight the programmes. Hoardings, gates and decorative lights have been put up at different places from the airport to the venue, Biswa Bangla Convention Centre at New Town.

Officials of the state Information and Cultural Affairs department have been working overtime to put everything in place ahead of the big day. Instances like that of Haldia Petrochemicals will be put forward citing that against the earlier 10-20 per cent production at present it is 97 per cent. Investment of interest from different multi-national entities will also be highlighted.

To substantiate that there is a conducive business environment here in Bengal, CM Mamata Banerjee is likely to talk about land availability, political stability, transparency in governance, good infrastructure and interrupted power supply.

The last three editions of BGBS had been conducted at Milan Mela grounds. This year it has been shifted to the newly-build convention centre which has the accommodation capacity of 3,000 guests. At least 300 representatives of 30 countries are expected to turn up at the event where several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) would be signed. Visiting countries would include Japan, France, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic and Korea.
