Automotive Components Manufacturers Associaton to set up Centre of Excellence in Gandhinagar

The national body for makers of components of automobiles will set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Gandhinagar to train the work force for as the demand for skilled manpower is rising in the state following entry of automobile manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Tata Motors, Ford Motors India, MG Motors and Honda Motorcycle and Scooters India in Gujarat.

Automotive Components Manufacturers Associaton (ACMA) made the announcement on Friday on the inaugural day of two day ACMA Value Chain Summit in Gandhinagar. The CoE will be set up in partnerships with IIT-Delhi and The Association of Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) of Japan, said NK Minda, president of ACMA. The CoE will be on the lines of one already functional at Sonepat in Haryana.

Minda said that with the entry of automobile manufacturers in Gujarat it is high time that the ecosystem of automobile component manufacturers is also scaled up. "The base of automobile vendors is still wanting in Gujarat," said Minda.

This will be the third CoE in the automobile sector in Gujarat. MSIL and state government have already set up Japan India Institute of Management in Mehsana. Another one is being set up at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) by MSIL and state government said state chief minister Vijay Rupani. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO- Maruti Suzuki said that the CoE will come up with an investment of Rs 120 crore and will be functional in 2019.

HMSI to invest Rs 800 cr this year

HMSI president and CEO Minoru Kato said that the company will invest Rs800 crore in India in current fiscal. The company is bullish about the Indian market for two-wheelers. “The year 2017-18 has been historic and record breaking. The company’s sales grew 22% during the year and become the only scooter company in the world to add more than one million units in a single year,” said Kato.
