According to a Fast Company report, the iPhone maker will use Intel?s 8161 5G modem chip in its 2020 line of iPhones. Intel will be the sole provider of iPhone modems.
The chip is expected to be manufactured using a 10-nanometer process which will boost speed and efficiency.
While some Android OEMs are choosing to release their first set of devices next year, Apple will wait until 2020 to launch its 5G iPhones as by then, the technology is likely to get matured.
Meanwhile, Apple recently rolled out the watchOS 5.1 only to pull it back after device bricking concerns. Some users who updated their Apple Watch to the newer watchOS 5.1 version reported that their watches were rendered unusable after installing the new update, The Verge reported.
Unlike the iPhone or iPad, with the Apple Watch issues, the only way to fix it is by contacting Apple for service. The latest issue appears to affect only the new Apple Watch Series 4.
Apple recently unveiled new iPhones, including one that is its largest and most expensive one and the products will be available in India next month. Along with the new iPhones, Apple also launched the new Watch Series 4.
The Apple Watch Series 4 has been priced at $399 (roughly Rs 28,700) for the GPS-only, non-Cellular variant, and $499 (around Rs 35,900) for the variant with both GPS and Cellular capabilities. Kuo believes that almost 55 percent of the estimated 18 million shipped Apple Watches this year will be from Series 4.
Looking for ways to lessen reliance on phones, which represent more than 60 percent its revenue, Apple opened its event this month by announcing the new Apple Watch Series 4 with edge-to-edge displays, like its latest phones, and they are more than 30 percent bigger than displays on current models.
It is positioning the new watch as a more comprehensive health device, able to take an electrocardiogram to detect an irregular heartbeat and start an emergency call automatically if it detects a user falling down, potentially appealing to older customers.
