Country's largest telecom player Bharti Airtel on Monday announced a partnership with cybersecurity firm Symantec Corporation to distribute its products in India.

Airtel will be the exclusive cybersecurity services partner for Symantec in India and will distribute Symantec's enterprise security software, company's MD and CEO Gopal Vittal said.

Through the partnership, Airtel will serve the growing cybersecurity requirements of businesses in India, offering protection and prevention of online threats in an increasingly digitally-connected world.

The tie-up will leverage Airtel's strength in India's business to business (B2B) segment, enabling the telecom firm to address the challenges of the cloud generation with Symantec's innovative integrated cyber-defence platform.

"Increasingly sophisticated cyber threats with the potential to disrupt business continuity are the new normal in today's digitally-connected world. Enterprises need to guard against these emerging threats and Airtel, with its experience in serving businesses with integrated connectivity solutions, is uniquely positioned to serve them. It will further consolidate our leadership position in the B2B space," Vittal said.

According to India CSS statistics, India has been ranked fourth globally and second in the Asia-Pacific region as a source of overall malicious activity, which takes spam, malware, phishing hosts, bots, network attack and web attacks into consideration.

About 54.3% of global spam detections are in India. And one out of every 7,379 emails in India contains a phishing link or attachment.

Airtel Business serves over 2,000 large enterprise accounts, plus over 250,000 corporate and tech start-ups with its integrated telecom solutions. In addition, Airtel has a strong presence in central and state government departments/divisions.

Symantec Cyber Security Services offers various services including global threat intelligence services, managed security services, incident response services and cyber skills development services to protect organisations from internal and external attacks, the company said.

Greg Clark, CEO of Symantec, said, "The threat environment is more dangerous and complex than ever. The partnership between Airtel and Symantec presents massive value to businesses in India. Our integrated cyber defence platform focuses on empowering businesses to protect their on-premise as well as fast growing cloud environment through every stage of an attack lifecycle by combining the broadest and deepest set of threat intelligence in the industry. With this partnership, under one service level agreement, Indian organisations can bolster their cyber defence and respond to new threats as they emerge at a significantly lower operational cost."
