The information was provided in a written reply by revenue minister Kaushik Patel to a question by Congress MLA from Danilimda seat Shailesh Parmar, who had sought to know if any fallow land owned by the government in Mundra and Mandvi talukas of Kutch was allotted for the Mundra Special Economic Zone project.

The reply said that the state government had given 5,05,01,977 sq mt land for Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (now known as Adani Port and SEZ) by sale.

The minister’s reply shows that land was given to Adani Group for the project at throwaway prices. More than 7.33 lakh sq mt land was given at a price of Rs2 per sq mt, and 17.65 lakh sq mt at Rs2.50 per sq mt. Lakhs of sq mt land was given for Rs4-10 per sq mt, and the maximum price charged from the Gautam Adani-led Group was Rs34 per sq mt.

Coming down heavily on the state government, Parmar said that on one hand lakhs of beneficiary families were waiting for the government to give them plots to build their homes, and on the other, crores of sq mt of land was doled out to one industrial house at throwaway prices. “The BJP government has given land like this to many other industries,” the MLA said, while adding that there were 103 villages in Kutch district alone which did not have gauchar land (pastoral land).
