Aadhaar-PAN linking: If you have not done it yet, here's your step-wise guide

The government on Friday has extended the current deadline for linking Aadhaar card with Permanent Account Number (PAN). Earlier, the citizens were supposed to link their Aadhaar with PAN till December 31, 2017 but now you can do it till March 31, 2018. 

The Centre in its notification has said, "It has come to notice that some of the taxpayers have not yet completed the linking of PAN with Aadhaar. Therefore, to facilitate the process of linking, it has been decided to further extend the time for linking of Aadhaar with PAN."

The government had made mandatory the linking of the two databases for filing ITRs from July, 1 this year.

But if you still have not done the same, why wait till March, follow our step-wise guide and do it right away. 

Step 1: An individual first has to register on the official  tax e-filing online portal

Step 2: After registration, the person is required to fill in the log in details such as log in id,password and date of birth. 

Step 3: After that a pop up would emerge asking you to link your PAN card with Aadhar,if not then lick on “profile settings” and then “Link Aadhaar”.

Step 4: After the above step, a page would open with auto filled details of an individual. 

Step 5: If the details match, enter your Aadhaar card number and click on the “Link Aadhaar” button.

Step 6: After completing all the steps you can see a message come stating that the linking has been done successfully.  

The date for linking of Aadhaar with PAN was initially extended till 31st August, 2017 which was further extended upto 31st December, 2017. But now the finance minister took to Twitter to announce the new deadline. 

Attorney General K K Venugopal told a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra the deadline to link Aadhaar number with mobile phones could not be extended beyond February 6, 2018, since the order was imposed by the top court in another PIL.

The top law officer's submission came on the heels of a mentioning made in the Aadhaar matter before a bench that also comprised justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud.
