Modi government recently announced two per cent hike in dearness allowance for central government employees and pensioners under the seventh pay commission. While the move will benefit around 50 lakh employees, teachers under 7th CPC in Jammu and Kashmir are still protesting over implementation of the benefits of seventh pay commission.

According to local media, teachers protest continued for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday in Srinagar outside Press Enclave over their demand to release the Seventh Pay Commission. Led by provisional president Rahi Irshad, the protesting teachers claimed that the struggle will continue till their demand for 7th Pay Commission benefits are met. Reportedly, the ReT teachers will celebrate Teachers’ Day as black day across Jammu and Kashmir.

The teachers protesting gained momentum after the announcement of DA increased by 2% for central government employees and pensioners.

Meanwhile, employees under 7th CPC will get 9 per cent DA in their salary. The proposal has been approved in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that DA has been calculated based on employee's basic salary.

The new DA will be implemented from July 1, 2018.

Earlier, a certain section of employees in Bihar got a reason to cheer. A section of teachers was planning to go on strike over their various demands including implementation of 7th Pay Commission as soon as possible. However, paying heed to their demands, Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modi has said that the state government has constituted a 3 member pay committee to look into the matter.

Modi also assured that both the teaching and non-teaching staff would get the revised pay as per the recommendations of the 7th pay commission.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar also said that the ministry's budget was increased to Rs 1.10 lakh crore in 2018-19 from Rs 63,000 crore in 2013-14, an increase of 70 per cent. The minister assured that money would be no bar if Patna University submits a proposal for its overall development.

Also, with Arun Jaitley back as Union Finance Minister, the Central Government employees, who have been waiting for a hike in minimum pay beyond the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, see a ray of hope.
