Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes would be scrapped in a bid to curb black money in India, the RBI has over a period introduced several new notes to the Indian market.

Starting with the Rs 2,000 note and Rs 500 notes, the RBI subsequently introduced Rs 200, Rs 50, Rs 10, and on Thursday the new Rs 100 notes.

Each of these currencies have been a unique colour - something that was previously not seen in India.

Last November, on the first anniversary of demonetization, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday, wrote a detailed post on Facebook explaining how demonetization had positively impacted the Indian economy. He said that the Prime Minister's move to get rid of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on November 8, 2016 was the stepping stone towards a cash-free economy, which in the process could eradicate black money.

"When the country is participating in “Anti-Black Money Day”, a debate was started that whether the entire exercise of demonetisation has served any intended purpose. This narrative attempts to bring out positive outcomes of demonetization in short-term and medium-term with respect to stated objectives," Jaitley had written.
