Reckitt Beckinser has appointed Indian born Laxman Narasimhan as its new chief executive officer in place of Rakesh Kapoor, a PIO, who was a superstar at Reckitt.

Narasimhan joins a galaxy of Indian origin executives heading the gobal multinationals. From Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Ajay Banga of MasterCard and Shantanu Narayan of Adobe, Ajit Jain at Berkshire, the list seems to be endless.

Most of the Indian CEOs were brought in when the companies were going through transitional phases. These leaders helped the firms navigate difficult times and took them to new heights.

Vikram Pandit led Citi during the 2008 financial crisis, restructuring and revitalising it until he left in October 2012.

While Pichai is credited for rolling out Google's Android system, Nooyi's acquisitions of Tropicana, Gatrode and Quaker Oats brands gave the beverages firm an edge over Coca-Cola. Nadella's cloud focus strategy paid off for Microsoft while Rajeev Suri enabled Nokia's shift to telecommunications equipment.

What makes these CEOs ideal for leading such transitions is the educational system back home, including the IITs and IIMs. It readies them to take on many global challenges confidently. More power to the Indian talent.
