Comedian Raju Shrivastav received threatening calls from Pakistan warning him not to
crack jokes on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Pakistan during his shows, police said.

"The person warned Raju over phone that he would loose his life if he continues to crack jokes against Dawood Ibrahim and Pakistan," Rajesh Sharma, business manager of Shrivastav said.

"Initially we thought they were just prank calls, but since last 25 days about 10 threatening calls have been received. Crime Branch officials seem to have tapped the calls and they themselves approached us and provided security to Shrivastav," Sharma said.

However, no complaint has been registered so far, but an additional security has been provided to the comedian who resides at Oshiwara in suburban Andheri.

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch officials were unavailable for comment.

Family members and friends of comedian Raju Srivastava burnt effigies and protested in his hometown after reports that he is receiving threatening calls for making fun of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Pakistan.

As soon as the news was flashed on news channels this morning, his fans came out on streets and demanded police protection for him. All this led to a minor traffic jam in the city. The Mumbai police have provided extra security to the artist.
