'A Gentleman' Review: Sidharth Malhotra, Jacqueline Fernandez offer polished predictable affair

What's it about:

The story begins with Gaurav (Sidharth Malhotra) buying his dream house, dream car and living the life he always wanted to. But there's just one thing needed to complete his still-incomplete life. A girlfriend. Enter bold and beautiful Kavita (Jacqueline), Her problem with him? He's too much of 'a gentleman'. On the other hand, there's Rishi (again Sid), a special agent working for Suniel Shetty, the Colonel who runs a fake organisation that deals with arms smuggling. Caught in the web of crime, Rishi wants to get out and start a life of his own. But the Colonel has other plans. After a series of cat and mouse chases, he finally escapes. Colonel and his men promise to hunt Rishi down. How they meet again and how their worlds collide, is what the remaining story is all about.

What's hot:

The humour. Raj and DK, the directors are known for bringing their unique brand of comedy. Sidharth Malhotra plays both parts with ease. This is one of his most earnest performances. Jacqueline looks sexy and provides comic relief. The action scenes are top notch -- from the chases to the hand-to-hand combat. Sunil Shetty who returns with this film may have little to do but he has towering screen presence as the baddie. The twist towards the interval is interesting. Hussain Dalal as Sid's colleague is brilliant. Also, it's a good looking film, which has been shot in Miami and Mumbai.

What's not:

The screenplay falters. Especially in the second half, where it loses steam and begins to drag a bit. But the film's main problem is in its predictability. You know the twist from the first scene and obviously, everyone can gauge the ending from the film's trailer. The songs are scattered and instead of adding more flavour, do the opposite. Rajit Kapoor and Supriya Pilgaonkar are wasted. The ending seems abrupt and out of place too. The chemistry between the lead pair is far from what was expected. Even their steamy scene doesn't really heat things up.

What to do:

Enough films have released this week appealing to various tastes. Pick one that suits your sensibilities.
