While the just-released Kesari is the first historical/period film in Parineeti Chopra’s filmography, it’s whetted her appetite for the genre. Since the movie is based on the Battle of Saragarhi, Pari wasn’t involved in the actual drama.

“The crux of the film is the battle that the men fight, so I was not a part of it. So, I think it’s still on my to-do list to be in a historical where I can be a part of the actual drama. Working in Kesari has instilled a fire in me to be a part of this genre a little more because I feel its power. If another film like this comes my way, I would love to do it,” she says.

Speaking about her latest movie reminds the actress of her debut days, when she started out with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011). When we tell her that she was so natural in that role, she laughs, “It was never me. I think I did such a good job that people thought, ‘Yeh toh aisi hi hai’. There’s nothing called being natural in front of the camera, everybody is acting,” she states. Another film that’s close to her heart, but didn’t do well at the box office, is Meri Pyaari Bindu (2017). “It’s my biggest satellite hit after Golmaal Again. It released around the same time as Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, so it didn’t stand a chance. But it was a good film and I genuinely believe that if it had released today, it would have done well,” she says about the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer.

As she had told us earlier, sometimes the films she had a lot of expectations from, didn’t always do well and vice-versa. Hits and misses are part of the movie business and she’s come to accept that. Who would know better than Pari. She was declared the ‘next big thing’ post Ishaqzaade (2012), but faced failure with films like Daawat-e-Ishq (2014) and Kill Dil (2014). “You can’t plan this career. It’s not in our hands, it’s in yours (the audience). It’s you who has to sit and decide, ‘Chalo kal main yeh picture dekhne jaata hoon’. We can’t influence you in any way. So no plans, just live each day,” she concludes.
