As America ready to make Dwayne Johnson, better known as ‘The Rock’, its next president? In July, according to records, official paperwork had been filed with the Federal Election Commission on the beefcake’s behalf by a man, Kenton Tilford. Though there’s no official confirmation or denial by the professional wrestler-and-actor if he’s indeed running for the presidential campaign in 2020, the idea of having this alpha male Hollywood star as the next president sounds exciting. And while we’re keeping our fingers crossed for that possibility to come true, we drew a list of celebrities who we think could be the next president of India, and we’ll tell you why...

Amitabh Bachchan

Big B is the most revered patriarch in the country. The veteran actor is full of wisdom, is well-spoken, conducts himself gracefully and is a good diplomat, too. And with the fan following that he enjoys internationally, our foreign relations will touch the sky!

Akshay Kumar

Mr Khiladi is a sorted, family-oriented and a bankable guy. He believes in discipline, doesn’t drink or smoke and is a fitness inspiration, not just for the common folk but also other celebrities. Moreover, with Akki taking up social issues and doing socially-relevant films, why not take it a few notches higher by becoming the next president?

Kamal Haasan

The multitalented man — actor, director, screenwriter, producer, playback singer and lyricist — has won numerous awards for his work in cinema. Haasan is involved in numerous social service activities and humanitarian work — be it launching cancer-relief fund, or donating funds for HIV infected kids to name some.

Shabana Azmi

The veteran film, television and theatre actress is not just reputed for her hard-hitting and socially-relevant films, Azmi is also a firebrand feminist and a committed social activist. She’s active in supporting causes of child survival and fighting AIDS and injustice, and doesn’t hesitate to voice her opinion on various issues. In 1998, the United Nations Population Fund appointed her as its Goodwill Ambassador for India. In 2008, SAARC has appointed her as its Goodwill Ambassador for HIV and AIDS programme. She certainly tops our list of candidates.

Ekta Kapoor

She is bold, sassy, and is a pro when it comes to multitasking. She knows how to run the show (pun intended) and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Our country would certainly benefit from having a feisty female president.

Sachin Tendulkar

One of the greatest cricketers and most loved Indian sportsmen of all times, Sachin couldn’t have made our country more proud of him than we already do. His dedication, discipline, hard work that he’s honed into his craft is exemplary, to say the least. Making the country proud is his forte...

Rajinikanth

His countless fans are eager to see their beloved Thalaiva make a foray into politics, as he can make so much of a difference, with the power, influence, and adulation he enjoys! The humble Rajinikanth is God for many and no less than God for many others as well. He is very much capable of winning by a landslide victory.

Sushmita Sen

The gorgeous Bengali woman and former Miss Universe is the perfect match of beauty and brains. Sush carries herself with elan, is articulate and sets an example of being a single mother. She’s known to lend her support to various social causes and women empowerment and welfare of the girl child. Sen has been awarded with Mother Teresa International Award in 2013.

Judge Jagdeep Singh

We applaud special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh who sentenced alleged ‘godman’ Ram Rahim Singh to two 10-year prison terms that will run consecutively, for raping two women. It sure wasn’t easy for Singh to be unfazed by the pressure on him. He’s proved himself to be a competent and upright judge with a no-nonsense attitude... Exactly what this country needs in the form of a president.

Riteish Deshmukh

He’s young, humble and family-oriented. Also, more importantly, he’s seen his father govern and has learnt a lot from him. And last but not the least, he’s got an impeccable comic timing and who wouldn’t like to have a president with a great sense of humour?

Pooja Bhatt

She’s learnt to be tough from a young age, is bold, outspoken, isn’t afraid to talk about her own struggles, lives life on her own terms with her head held high, is a feminist and walks the talk. Phew! With such qualities, she’s a strong contender.

Arnab Goswami

You may like him or hate him, but you can’t escape him. He’s the aggressive TV news anchor, who can grill politicians on his show and get their knickers in a twist! The nation wants to know how he does it effortlessly?

Vishal Dadlani

This uber talented musician is quite vociferous about his views and doesn’t mince his words when pointing a finger at unscrupulous political honchos.

Boman Irani

The multi-talented film, theatre actor, voice over artiste and photographer is our pick. Though he’s been a late bloomer in Bollywood, he’s carved a name for himself. Many would find it hard to believe that he did his first movie at the age of 41. And, last but not the least, he’s such a great guy!

Gul Panag

The former Miss India is another fine example of beauty and intelligence. Gul actively supports a number of social causes, spreads awareness and encourages people to do so. She’s an automobile enthusiast, a certified pilot and a passionate environmentalist. We need women like her to be our future leader to lead the nation.
