It has been a month since Kabir Singh released. It thus has also been a month since the movie was criticised for being mysognystic and violent. Various people spoke up at various occasions. Lead actor Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khatter defended the film, followed by the film's director Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Post his interview, Sandeep was bashed for his justification on the infamous slap scene from his movie Kabir Singh. While the director was still reeling from his effects, finally Shahid has opened up on the controversy. The actor went on to say that the reaction which the audiences have given, was exactly what they were looking forward to. He mentioned that the intent of the movie was to make the character feel unacceptable and send across the message that his behaviour has gone out of control.

In an interview to Bollywood Hungama, the actor clarified, "If Kabir hadn't slapped Preeti (Kiara Advani's character), would everything else that he did be okay? Because he slapped the girl, you feel that is unacceptable and that Kabir Singh is an unacceptable character. We want you to feel this is unacceptable, his behaviour has gone beyond control."

He also stated, "Kabir Singh is the guy who the film is about and he is the guy who's the problem" - the "protagonist" and "antagonist" of the movie."

Further talking about why he spoke up so late, Shahid added, "The reason I didn't do an interview is because I felt everyone was very aggressive. And I didn't think it was healthy. I didn't want to come out attacking anybody. I didn't want to come out defending a film. I wanted to speak about a film like a film should be spoken about."

"It's interesting to see people, who make weekend conversation over it, seem to feel so much more of a sense of ownership on the film than those people who actually spent a year making it," Shahid Kapoor concluded.

Kabir Singh, directed by Vanga, also stars Kiara Advani as the female lead. The movie is the Hindi remake of Sandeep's Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy which starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in lead roles.
