The first trailer for Anil Sharma's 'Genius' starring Utkarsh Sharma has been released and here's what it's all about...
The first trailer from Anil Sharma’s directorial venture, Genius, starring his son, Utkarsh Sharma, in his first leading role has been released. The movie is being marketed as Utkarsh’s big break in Bollywood.
Previously, a teaser was released for the film, which depicted the growth of Utkarsh from the adorable kid who played Jeetey in Anil Sharma’s big hit, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, to the leading man he is now. The teaser also gave a hint at the actual story of the film, which the trailer manages to flesh out.
The trailer shows Utkarsh as a budding science student (who’s a little too into Vedic verses and Sanskrit for his own good) who relentlessly pursues the girl of his dreams, played by Ishita Chauhan, best known for starring in the 2014 film Asha Black.
The usual hijinks ensue, before we take a ‘sudden’ (let’s just say, it’s been done before) turn and end up showing Utkarsh being beaten up by everyone’s favourite actor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, fresh off of some Sacred Games success. Turns out, Utkarsh’s character is a RAW agent who is targeted with bringing down Nawaz’s character. We have the usual fight scenes, song and dance, holi montages and then, lo and behold, we have Genius, backed by Anil Sharma productions.
The trailer isn’t anything particularly new. Utkarsh ends up oozing just the typical amount of innocence, smugness and intensity. Kind of like a blend of Himansh Kohli from Yaariyan and Main Tera Hero's Varun Dhawan.
Ishita herself isn’t given much to showcase in the trailer, and hopefully the actual film (or upcoming trailers, if any) will tell us whether she gives us the acting range she did in her previous film. Nawaz is just as intense and mysterious as ever, and no matter how much he tries to hide that face of his with his trench coat, we will always recognize that voice. The film also stars Mithun Chakraborty and Ayesha Jhulka.

It looks like we won’t have to wait long to see how it all pans out for Utkarsh Sharma and that 1000 watt smile of his. Genius releases on August 24, 2018.
