Was Ranbir the first choice for 3 Idiots?

Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani recently hinted that he was considering making a sequel to his 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots. The star cast of the sequel is not known. But when we were interacting with Ranbir Kapoor during his recent publicity stint for Sanju, the biopic on Sanjay Dutt, we learnt that the star son had first met Raju when the filmmaker was casting for 3 Idiots.

“Raju sir met me when he was writing 3 Idiots and was thinking of casting new or relatively newer actors,” said RK. He added, “I always wanted to work with him. He is India’s greatest filmmaker and working with him has only justified what the world thinks of him. He’s hardworking, meticulous and a simple man whose desire is to entertain the audience. He doesn’t want to make films for awards or critics or his friend circle. All he tries to do is connect with a larger audience.”
