Vidya Balan's film 'Shakuntala Devi' gets a release date

With theatres closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, producers and filmmakers are looking to release their content on social media and today Amazon Prime Video announced the release date of Vidya Balan starrer Shakuntala Devi. 

Directed by Anu Menon of Four More Shots Please season 1, the much-awaited biopic will release on July 31 on the OTT platform. The film is produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Vikram Malhotra of Abundantia Entertainment.

In the film, Vidya will be seen essaying the role of the globally renowned Indian mathematics genius, who was popularly known as the "human computer", Shakuntala Devi and Sanya Malhotra who will be seen playing the role of Shakuntala Devi's daughter with whom the genius enjoyed a complicated but extraordinary relationship.

The film also stars Jisshu Sengupta and Amit Sadh in key roles. In an earlier interview, Sanya had spoken about her role of playing Vidya's daughter in the film and had said, "My character in Shakuntala Devi is based on a real person, her daughter Anupama Banerjee. I believe that 70% of our job is done by the makeup and hair department. With the look in place, I got into her shoes easily. My director, too, helped me a lot to understand my character in the movie."

While director Anu had said, "Shakuntala Devi’s passion for maths and her determination to spread its joy to the world was unparalleled. She lived ahead of her times and on her terms - and as we all strive to change the narrative of the female protagonist on-screen, her story is one that calls out to be told."
