Indra Kumar's adventure-comedy 'Total Dhamaal', starring Ajay Devgn, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Riteish Deshmukh among others opened to a whopping Rs 16.50 crore on February.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#TotalDhamaal - non-holiday release - creates dhamaal on Day 1... Biz multiplies as day progresses... Mass circuits rocking... Metros/plexes witness upward trend... Biz should grow on Day 2 and contribute to a big total over the weekend... Fri ₹ 16.50 cr. India biz."

Talking to Hindustan Times about Total Dhamaal's business, film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi had earlier said, “This is a film which caters to huge social strata. It should appeal to the kids, elders and should perform well in the single screens, multiplexes and tier-2, tier-3 cities, which is a huge chunk. It’s from a director who has succeeded more often than not.”

On being asked whether 'Total Dhamaal' could pose threat to Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's 'Gully Boy', that released on February 14, Rathi had said, “Not at all. Gully Boy caters to the multiplex audience while Total Dhamaal is for the masses.”

Despite recording an impressive opening on Friday, from here on, the film's numbers will rely on word of mouth, which is not that great as of now.

Film critic Meena Iyer gave the film 2.5 stars out of five and wrote in her review for DNA, "Indra Kumar just blew a golden opportunity to redeem himself. He had Bollywood's A-listers giving him a chance to showcase something new. Instead, he is still stuck in the groove with caricatures (one Gujarati, one Maharashtrian, a couple of South-Indians, a Bengali); you know the drill. Ridiculing accents and as we said earlier, making monkeys out of men, is an art well-perfected by a segment in Bollywood."

Total Dhamaal is the third instalment in the Dhamaal series. Directed by Indra Kumar, the film brings back the superhit pairing of Anil and Madhuri after 19 years. The extended star cast of the film include Jaaved Jaaferi, Johnny Lever, Boman Irani and Sanjai Mishra.
