'Thugs Of Hindostan', YRF's big budget film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, hit the screens on November 8, a day after Diwali.

It recorded a historic collection of Rs 52.25 Cr, which is the highest for any Hindi film on Day 1. 'Thugs' has also become the biggest Yash Raj opener along with getting the highest collection for any Diwali release to date. Its record-breaking advance tickets sale had a huge role to play in the film's performance. It has surpassed the Rs 40.73 crore nett achieved by SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali - The Conclusion on its opening day.

'Thugs Of Hindostan' has also overtaken the first-day collection of Dangal (Rs 29.78 crore). The fact that it released across 7000 screens worldwide, as opposed to Dangal's 5300 screens may have had a role to play.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the Day 1 collection of Thugs on Twitter. He pointed out that the film has set new benchmarks for the Hindi film industry.

Taran tweeted, “#ThugsOfHindostan smashes all records [Hindi films] as it breaches ₹ 50 cr on Day 1… Sets new BENCHMARKS in some circuits… Big holiday [#Diwali] + tremendous hype + massive screen count help put up a SENSATIONAL TOTAL…”

In another tweet, he also revealed that the film has collected Rs 1.50 crore in its Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions too.

'Thugs' is the biggest opener of 2018, so far.

Given the poor reviews, Taran Adarsh feels the real test for 'Thugs' begins from today.

The ticket prices of the film were hiked against the usual practice. Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi had earlier told Hindustantimes.com, “The ticket price that the movie would be fetching will be among the highest that has ever been for any Hindi movie. That will eventually give the film a spike in the figures to come. By Saturday, it will easily run past the Rs 100 crore mark.”

On Karan Johar's chat show, Aamir revealed that he was "nervous" about the audience's response to the film."I am specially nervous about this film for one reason that people are used to seeing my films with some message in it or some new concept. This is a film, which is really a mainstream kind of a film. So I am hoping that people will not get disappointed. I enjoyed doing the film, I hope the audience enjoys it as much," he said

The actor is relieved seeing the film’s performance at the box office, now. In a statement, Aamir said, “Just heard the 1st-day collection of Thugs, I am humbled by the love and affection of the audience. Thank you”.

Director Vijay Krishna Acharya also shared his happiness, saying, “Thugs of Hindostan is the quintessential Hindi movie that we love to watch with our friends and family. We were lucky to get two of the biggest stars of our generation to come together for an out and out masala Diwali entertainer and we are humbled and ecstatic with the love and appreciation that audiences have showered on Thugs to help the film create box office history on day one. We are thrilled to see that audiences across age groups are loving Thugs of Hindostan and have made our film a part of their Diwali plans. We made Thugs with a vision to provide a pure festive entertainer for the entire family and this result is extremely gratifying for all of us at YRF.”
