She lit up the screen, she danced like a dream, her eyes said it all, she was the ultimate Bollywood queen. These are some of the ways one would remember the first female superstar of Indian film industry – Sridevi. A day after the terrible news of her sudden demise left millions of fans heartbroken, many are still trying to come to the terms of her loss.

Her impressive body of work included movies in many languages such as Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. She worked in 300 movies. Making an onscreen debut at tender age of 4, Sridevi went on to become the golden girl of Indian film industry. In a career spanning for over five decades, Sridevi became a guarantee of hit movies.

As her legions of fans remember their beloved actor, DNA brings you five most memorable dance performances of Sridevi in Hindi films. It is extremely tedious task to pick the favourite Sridevi dance. From Nagina’s main teri dushman, where she became first Indian actress to wear contact lens to morni song of Lamhe, Sridevi was every bit the star the movie buffs used to worship.

Without further ado, here’s our humble tribute to the Queen of Bollywood:

Himmatwala (1983): Naino mein Sapna

After disaster of Solva Sawan in 1978, Sridevi returned to Hindi film industry with mind-blowing performance in Sadma (1983). But it was the commercial success of Himmatwala that year, which gave Sridevi the place in Bollywood. Her song naino mein sapna along with ‘jumping jack’ Jeetendra became the ultimate 80s hit. From hundreds of pots to Sridevi’s ornate dresses, this song had every bit of masala.

Tohfa (1984): Ek aankh maaru

The effortless chemistry between Sridevi and her Himmatwala co-star Jeetendra makes this song a delight to watch. It doesn’t matter whether the song is set in ‘gaon ke khet’ and the lyrics have nothing to write about, Sridevi and Jeetendra will force you watch the full song and we guarantee that you will keep humming it entire day!

Mr India (1987): Hawa Hawai

There can never be any other Hawa Hawai! Who else can make fruit hat look cool? Only Sridevi! Hawa Hawai is the lesson for Bollywood heroines in dance, drama and glamour. Her eyes say it all.

Chandni (1989): Mere haanthon mein nau nau choodiyan hain

Who has not danced to this song at a wedding? Mere haanthon mein nau nau choodiyan hain is the shaadi song for generations. The gotedaar lehanga with long paranda, the multi-coloured bangles and the gold jewellery will never go out of fashion. In a time, when the face of heroin shows the steps and not the dance, this performance made Sridevi look like she is having fun at a friend’s wedding.

Chaalbaaz (1989): Na jaane kahan se aayi hai

Sridevi was the hero of this movie. It was after a long gap of Seeta aur Geeta that Bollywood saw such a brilliant success in a heroine-centric movie. As Manju, Sridevi danced in rain with Sunny Deol and she looked this spunky self.
