Bollywood is happy to break out from the big screen format to tell interesting stories to the digital audience. Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra will now helm the Indian adaptation of popular Israeli crime thriller "Hostages", to be telecast as a webseries.

Ronit Roy and Tisca Chopra are set to star. Applause Entertainment, the content studio from the Aditya Birla Group, has acquired the rights for the Indian remake from Armoza Formats.
The show will be produced by Banijay Asia, according to a press release. "'Hostages' is an enthralling and captivating concept, which will hook viewers," Sameer Nair, CEO, Applause Entertainment, said in a statement.

Apart from Roy and Chopra, the Indian adaptation will also have actors like Parvin Dabas and Dalip Tahil in key roles.

"There is a clear demand for a show like this in the digital space and with a director like Sudhir Mishra, producer like Deepak Dhar and actors like Ronit, Tisca, Parvin and Dalip, this show will definitely take the premium conspiracy series bar a notch higher," Nair added. For Mishra, the creator of classics such as "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" and "Chameli", this will be his first webseries as a director.
"I treat each and every film or show of mine as the first one, which helps me think of the plot in a new and fresh way. 'Hostages' is one such example. A show like this has never been made before and 'Hostages' will give a fresh turn to the Indian digital space," Mishra said.

Ronit says he constantly strives to keep the audience engaged and entertained with each of his performances and that his character in the series is intriguing, so he is all the more excited to present it to people. Tisca feels it will be challenging to live up to the high hopes set by the original show.

"Having a director like Sudhir Mishra and a cast full of brilliant actors, this journey will be an interesting one. A show like this has never been made before and 'Hostages' will give a fresh turn to the Indian digital space," she said.

The shoot of "Hostages" is currently underway in Mumbai and the other actors in the digital series are - Malhaar Rathod, Sharad Joshi, Aashim Gulati, Surya Sharma and Anangsha Biswas.
The show is expected to stream later this year.
