Going by the first weekend collections, Kangana Ranaut's film 'Simran' has beaten Farhan Akhtar's 'Lucknow Central' at the box office
Last Friday saw the release of Kangana Ranaut's 'Simran' and Farhan Akhtar's 'Lucknow Central' at the box office.
After weeks of controversies and brazen interviews everyone wondered if Miss Ranaut will be able to resume her tag as 'Queen' of the box-office or the movie will only be remembered for Kangana's big revelations about her ex-flames, Hrithik Roshan and Aditya Pancholi. This Hansal Mehta film which features Kangana Ranaut in every frame has got a mixed response from the film critics but still managed to hold fort at the box office.
Barring the collections on Sunday when India was busy watching men in blue up against Aussies, the collections have shown steady growth on the first weekend of its release. Taran Adarsh revealed the figures, tweeting, “#Simran needs to maintain on weekdays for a respectable total… Fri 2.77 cr, Sat 3.76 cr, Sun 4.12 cr. Total: ₹ 10.65 cr. India biz.” Although the numbers have been better, the growth from Saturday to Sunday has been very minimal. Taran Adarsh wrote, “#Simran showed good growth on Sat, but the growth on Sun was limited due to the cricket match… Overall, the trending was positive…”
'Simran' rides on Kangana's shoulders and box-office numbers have been descent despite the fact that the film didn’t fetch rave reviews . For now Simran has beaten Farhan Akthar's 'Lucknow Central' which only managed to collect 8.42 crores in three days. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh did the number crunching and tweeted that the film is hoping for decent weekday collections to become a hit.
It is too soon to say which film is a hit or a flop, but one thing is for sure that Kangana Ranaut fans continue to love her irrespective of her being against the tide.
