Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor breathed his last on Monday
Updated : Dec 06, 2017, 01:21 PM IST
Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor passed away at the age of 79 on Monday. While the Indian media covered the news of his demise extensively and how the entire film fraternity offered condolences, international media too aired news of the death of India's first crossover star.
But BBC's tribute to the late actor turned into a blooper when the channel aired clips of Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor as the news anchor announced the news of Shashi Kapoor's death. Moreover, the channel ran two clips of two different actors and we wonder, how the channel could not differentiate between the two. Making it worse, the Amitabh Bachchan clip that the channel aired was from the film Kabhie Kabhie, a film that also featured Shashi Kapoor.
Hang on @bbcnews Shashi Kapoor has died not Amitabh Bachan or Rishi Kapoor, who you've weirdly used to illustrate the story. pic.twitter.com/48jo6DGjU6

Naturally, this goof-up did not go down well with the Twitterati who slammed the international channel.
Someone at the BBC thought the brown person in this VT is the same person. Worse still neither of them are the deceased actor Huw refers to. It’s poor when it would have taken them seconds to verify. Not enough care. https://t.co/iFARRcqe19

After being trolled, BBC's Paul Royall issued an apology and wrote, "#BBCNewsTen is very sorry wrong images were used to mark the death of Shashi Kapoor. Not our usual standards and I apologise for any upset."

Meanwhile, another Indian news channel tagged Congress politician Shashi Tharoor instead of late actor Shashi Kapoor while breaking the news on their Twitter profile. Looking at which, the politician wrote back, "We're getting condolence calls in the office. Reports of my demise are, if not exaggerated, at least premature. #ShashiKapoor."
