They might be men with a huge fan following in real life, yet, they have found themselves in the friendzone on screen. While some lost the girl to another man, others just couldn’t get the lady to commit. Times have changed and so have the reasons why these actors were only seen as a buddy by the object of their affection. Here are those who couldn’t escape the much-dreaded friendzone...

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY

Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana played childhood buddies in Meri Pyaari Bindu. While the romance between them developed only when the two make their way to Mumbai from Kolkata, it’s a short-term thing. The restless Bindu (Pari) cannot bring herself to tie the knot with her childhood buddy and makes an escape. They meet years later and even bond. But some friendships aren’t meant to end in the love zone, and this was one of those stories.

LET’S STAY FRIENDS

In Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor bond over their love for Hindi films and music. The two get along like a house on fire. That, however, doesn’t lead to a romantic relationship. She falls for Fawad Khan. Though that relationship ends, and Ranbir even takes care of her when she is diagnosed with cancer, it still doesn’t lead to anything more between the two dosts.

MAYBE, MAYBE NOT...

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu was perhaps one of those few movies that ended with neither of the leads falling for each other or for anyone else. They tie the knot under the influence of alcohol and end up becoming friends. While he develops feelings for her, she thinks of him only as a friend. The movie ends on a note with them being happy with just being pals and Imran staying firmly in the buddy zone.

JUST A MENTOR

Akshay Kumar takes a great interest in an upcoming actress’ (Sonakshi Sinha) career in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara! While she is happy to have him as her mentor, her heart lies with Imran Khan, who lives in her vicinity. Akshay, who also happens to be an underworld don, doesn’t take being relegated to the friendzone too well. However, his attempts to win the girl don’t yield any results.

NEVER TELL A LIE

Dostana saw Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham pretending to be gay to get cheap accommodation. That, however, becomes a problem when they both fall for Priyanka Chopra, who owns the apartment. Their little lie puts them out of the race immediately. While Abhi and John compete for her attention, she is absolutely oblivious to it. Instead, she walks into the sunset with her boss, played by Bobby Deol.

THREE’S A CROWD

While Neil Nitin Mukesh falls for Katrina Kaif, who helps him when he is a new student at a university, she is already in love with the hunky John Abraham. The trio shared screen space in New York, which was directed by Kabir Khan. Though Neil makes a comeback into the then-married couple’s life, the equation stays the same.

IN LOVE WITH THE DOCTOR

Juhi Chawla played psychiatrist to Govinda in Deewana Mastana. A conman, Anil Kapoor, falls for her too. A battle ensues between the two to win her affection. While their silly antics are entertaining, you are left wondering, who will get to walk away with her. In the end, however, she picks neither of them and ties the knot with Salman Khan.

BE MY BUDDY

Akshay Kumar played Madhuri Dixit-Nene’s buddy, who was taken in by his family when she lost her parents in Dil To Pagal Hai. They have grown up together and he even takes her to a fancy destination just for a shopping spree. However, when it comes to falling in love, she loses her heart to Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan). Later, she agrees to marry her friend for the kindness that his family showed towards her. Akshay, however, realises the same and gets out of the way.

WAITING FOR LOVE...

Though Shah Rukh Khan friendzoned Karisma Kapoor in Dil To Pagal Hai, he found himself in a similar spot in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. He played the lovable-loser Sunil, who is in love with Anna (Suchitra Krishnamoorthi).
However, she has her heart set on Chris (Deepak Tijori). Sunil tries various tricks to get her to marry him, but nothing works. In the end, Juhi Chawla walks in when he is sitting alone. Where there’s love, there’s hope, right?
