Neena Gupta bounced back to acting with 'Badhaai Ho' and she even became friendly with the likes of Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, but why did she end up calling them mean and cheap?
Neena Gupta undoubtedly stole the show and came back with a bang in her last release 'Badhaai Ho', which also starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra and Gajraj Rao in lead roles. The movie, directed by Amit Sharma, received a lot of critical acclaim.
In fact Neena Gupta became so popular that renowned filmmaker Karan Johar and superstar Shah Rukh Khan not only know her but also exchanged numbers with her. The gamechangers of B-Town, SRK and KJo gave Neena Gupta their numbers.
The story goes back to Neena's daughter Masaba Gupta. Masaba, a renowned fashion designer, who even launched the recently held Game Of Thrones (GoT) party exclusively in Mumbai, wanted to be an actress, but Neena wanted her to let go of the aspirations.
The 'Badhaai Ho' actress tried to convince Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar for the same. She met them on a flight, and despite Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar taking the efforts of providing her with their numbers, they did not receive her calls.
When Neena Gupta heard the whole incident once again on film critic Rajeev Masand's chat show, she jokingly said, “Yeah so mean, cheap kinda people they are,” adding, “They gave me there number and phir phone he nahi uthate the (didn’t attend my calls).”
Further talking about the advice she gave Masaba if the latter wanted to become an actress, Neena mentioned, “I told her if you want to be an actor then you go abroad. Because tumhara jis tarah ka shakal hai aur body hai, tumhe yahan Indian mileu mein bohot kum role milenge, even if you become a good actor. So, tumko woh heroine nahi milegi. Hema Malini nahi banoge, Alia (Bhatt) nahi banoge.”
Masaba is currently running a successful fashion line and Bollywood celebrities like Sonam Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor not only endorse her clothing, but are also great friends with her. Kangana Ranaut, Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Athiya Shetty are among some other celebrities who have donned her label.
