Having written one of the best new age comedy, Delhi Belly back in 2011 which received quite an overwhelming response from the audience, Akshat Verma is all set to showcase his first directorial venture with Saif Ali Khan starrer Kaalakaandi.
Set in Mumbai, the movie is said to be a thrilling dark comedy based on the lives of six urban and ambitious characters from different worlds. Kaalakaandi is going to be a raucous tale about life, death and karma that barrels through one monsoon night.
The film was written specifically with Saif Ali Khan in mind. It took over two years before the script was presented to the actor and to add to their surprise, Saif gave a nod in just 5 minutes after reading it!
“Kaalakaandi is a film I'm so happy to be a part of! It's a cross section of Mumbai with underworld goons, doomed bankers and idealistic lovers all mixed together in this karmic tale about love, crime and living a lifetime in one night! Akshat has written and directed this unique movie and he is probably the only voice who tells it exactly like it actually is. Mumbai is a crazy, beautiful city and he is captured it perfectly in this very fun and very moving film” says Saif.
Apart from Saif, the film also stars Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raz, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Akshay Oberoi, Isha Talwar, Shenaz Treasury, Shivam Patil, Amyra Dastur and Neil Bhoopalam. The makers of the film have now officially announced the release date of the film. Kaalakaandi is slated to hit the theatres on September 8, 2017.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter account to share the announcement.
