Remembering Shashi Kapoor: Pak fans gather outside his ancestral haveli

Legendary actor Shashi Kapoor passed away on Monday evening after suffering from prolonged illness. Even after a state funeral which was held amid massive security, tributes for the veteran actor hasn't stopped pouring in. Not from just celebrities from all walks of life described him  as 'charming gentleman' who shall be remembered by generations to come.  Fans across the border also gathered outside his ancestral house in Pakistan.

Legendary actor Shashi Kapoor passed away on Monday evening after suffering from prolonged illness. Even after a state funeral which was held amid massive security, tributes for the veteran actor hasn't stopped pouring in. Not from just celebrities from all walks of life described him  as 'charming gentleman' who shall be remembered by generations to come.  Fans across the border also gathered outside his ancestral house in Pakistan.

Pictures of fans paying tribute to Shashi Kapoor in Peshawar has gone viral.Fans labelled him as "pride of Peshawar" and put up huge posters of the legendary actor. Shashi Kapoor's father PrithviRaj Kapoor hails from Peshwawar, which is now a part of Pakistan. Kapoors lived at a haveli there before he moved to Mumbai and gave us four generations of talented actors. 

 

79 year old actor had not been keeping well for quite some time and was confined to a wheel chair. His elder son Kunal Kapoor was by his bedside when he passed away while his daughter Sanjana and his younger son Karan rushed back from the US as soon as they heard the news. Even Bollywood biggies like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor reached Kapoor's residence as soon as the news of his demise was out. 

Shashi Kapoor will always be remembered for his brilliant line up of films, not just in India but abroad as well.He starred in over 175 films in the span of his career and also revived Prithvi Theatre along with his wife Jennifer Kendal. Shashi won a National Film Award for Best Actor in 1986 for the film 'New Delhi Times' and even the Special Jury award in 1994 for the film 'In Custody'. He was also awarded the third highest civilian honour – Padmabhushan – by the government in 2011. Even as a producer, he continued to surprise his audience with Junoon,  Kalyug and 36 Chowringhee Lane and even fantasy film called Ajooba.
