In a sea of peacocks and dandies, Ranbir Kapoor stands out with his laid-back, understated and coherent approach to style. You’ll never see him in a sequinned T-shirt or a statement-making metallic puffer parka yet his inherent sense of cool always manages to outshine anyone who’s in the same frame as him. The talented star’s style has evolved from being the lovable boy-next-door to the quintessential athleisure dude. His closet picks comprise brands like Off-White, Aimé and Heron Preston. Also, his accessories game has been on point and he is one of those few actors, who looks great with even a fanny-pack belt around his waist (the ’90s accessory — considered frumpy by some).
In Bollywood, the Kapoor scion has been the biggest torchbearer of the bandana. He’s been seen sporting them during his football practices, dance training, and even during his family’s Ganpati visarjan. He has worn one in every colour, print and motif and it brings out his brooding hipster side.

It’s easy to sense the unmistakable NYC vibe from RK’s laidback yet chic appearances — whether he’s practising on the field or arriving at the airport. Designer Dhruv Kapoor calls it a ‘typical city boy look’. “Relaxed and on-trend — he reminds one of a nonchalant and casual New Yorker. A pair of sweatpants worn with sneakers has been his off-duty look and he’s never OTT,” says Dhruv.
Lean and athletic
The Sanju actor’s biggest advantage is his athletic body type, which makes just about anything look fantastic. “His physique is on the athletic side and he pulls off bandhgalas and suits beautifully. Also, there’s been a smart curation of labels and he’s shown a consistency when it comes to that. Having said that, his appearances don’t scream ‘here I come, look at me’,” says stylist Divyak D’Souza.
Cool accessories game
Ranbir has put the bandana on the style map thus making it mainstream. He’s experimented with its different knot styles, prints and patterns. “What was considered very ghetto has emerged as a modern-day fashion accessory, thanks to RK,” observes designer Aniket Satam.
In a scenario when everyone in Bollywood is dressed to be photographed, Ranbir is one of the few actors, who never tries too hard, yet stands out, which makes him a remarkable sartorial study.
