Rakul Preet Singh recently shared a teaser video from her next movie Manmadhudu 2. The Telugu film will see her share screen space with Nagarjuna Akkineni. Right after the teaser video and her character introduction videos were shared, Rakul started getting trolled.

The actress was trolled for smoking on screen. Not only Rakul, even director Rahul Ravindran and his singer wife Chinmayi Sripaada were under the brunt for 'being double standard'. Chinmayi, who had slammed Sandeep Reddy Vanga for his thoughts on normalizing slapping in a relationship, was brutally trolled for supporting her husband's film, which supported smoking.

Entertainment portal Pinkvilla got in touch with Rakul over the trolling. Talking about them, Rakul told the publication, "I don't really get bothered by trolls. I think logo ka kaam hai kehna, kuch toh log kahenge."

Comparing her character to Shahid Kapoor in Kabir Singh, she added, "We are playing characters, now whether it is Kabir Singh, if Shahid is smoking in the film it does not make him a smoker. No way he is promoting smoking. He is playing a character Arjun Reddy that is flawed and he does those things. In real life Shahid Kapoor is a vegetarian, we all know that. People should disassociate to what we are playing onscreen is different and it is a story of that one person...we are not putting the entire girl clan into girls not showing in the right way. That's not happening. It is that one character Avantika that smokes and it's her story. Once you see the film, people will know why she does. Treat it like the character...For me, it was something different. I really don't pay attention to trolls...there are bigger and better things to do."

The actress, in a previous interview to IB Times had opened up about her role and mentioned, "Playing Avantika is a lot of fun. She is mature, has some baggage with her and has a lot to do. The vibes she has are different and her character has some deep layers. She is someone whom you can't win so easily. So all these are the characteristics of Avantika. And when Rahul narrated me my role and script, I said I want to do this. I loved the characterisation and how he wants to see a young woman who is lovable and strong too."
