The makers of the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor horror-comedy Stree decided to make utmost use of the two prominent August 15 releases. Audiences who went to see Gold and Satyameva Jayate, had a spooky surprise waiting to catch them unaware in the intervals. As the audio stating ‘Ab mard ko dard dene aa rahi hai Stree’ played in the auditoriums, a woman, dressed in the ghost’s attire from the movie, walking down the stairs further unnerved the cinegoers.

A member of the audience was overheard, saying, “It was really scary for a moment till we realised it’s for the film’s promotion.” Producer Dinesh Vijan, who conceived this idea, says, “We knew this Independence Day would be big at the box office. Add to that, a long weekend seemed like a winning combination! Theatres are our ideal catchment and we wanted to do something unique. The innovation has got a great response, and evoked screams, laughter or both.”
