'Picking on me for no reason': Priyanka Chopra on facing 'sense of negativity' from South Asian community

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has made her mark in Hollywood after ruling the Hindi film industry for nearly two decades. The actor has been lauded for her milestones and the brave steps she took in her career. Now during a recent interaction with BBC, Priyanka was asked about the responses and the negativity she faced from the South Asian community. The actor also said that people feel protective towards her too along with a 'sense of negativity from a few.

On BBC's Beyond Bollywood podcast, Priyanka stated, "I do notice a sense of protectiveness from a lot of people but also a sense of cynicism from a lot of people and a sense of negativity from a lot of people. Picking on me for no reason."

PeeCee further narrated, "I was talking about this to Mindy (Kaling) a couple of months ago and we were talking about why is it that you get so much negativity from your own community. Very few brown people are in the entertainment business in Hollywood, right? You can count us on your fingers. What our attempt is… We are literally, with our own two hands, trying to create more opportunity for people like us. So, why is there so much negativity for us?"

Priyanka went on to say, "When I started working in Hollywood I realised it's not normal to people's consciousness that a leading man or woman can be Indian in a mainstream Hollywood show."

The Quantico actor added, "I've started noticing the difference between fans who know me and are protective of me and they are the wind beneath my wings. I also feel disheartened and discouraged by the other side."
