Amidst the growing controversy surrounding the release of Sanjay Leela Bhanali's magnum opus Padmavati, starring Deepika Padukone as the protagonist, a number of Bollywood celebs have come out in support of the actress and the helmer. Industry big-wigs have especially condemned the death threats issued against Bhansali and Deepika by Rajput Karni Sena.
Now, when most of the celebs have voiced their support in favour of the actress, several reports suggested that Kangana Ranaut has refused to sign the petition called 'Deepika bachao' spearheaded by veteran actress Shabana Azmi for the safety of Deepika Padukone. Actresses like Anushka Sharma, Vidya Balan, Katrina Kaif among others have already signed the petition but Kangana refused to do so.
Since morning, speculations were rife as to why Kangana refused to sign the petition. A MidDay report quoted a source as saying that Kangana flatly refused to signe the petition on being approached. This further led to rumours stating that Kangana didn't support DP owing to her fallout with her.
Now, the folks at BollywoodLife got in touch with Kangana and the actress had a different story to tell. Kangana was quoted as saying, "I was filming Manikarnika in Jodhpur when I got a call from dear friend Anushka Sharma to sign the petition written by Ms Shabana Azmi. I explained to her that Deepika Padukone has all my support but I am a bit wary of Shabana Azmi’s investment in left wing Vs right wing politics. I have my own set of ideas and opinions about the current situation in our country. I am on the fence about many things and being a part of a feminist movement called ‘Deepika bachao’ led by someone who character assassinated me when I was bullied by influential men, seems to be one of them. Anushka understood but I am glad they reached out to me, like I said Deepika has all my support I am an individual perfectly capable of supporting who I like without anyone’s support.”
