While Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus 'Padmaavat' is all set for a release on Janaury 25th 2018, fringe groups continue to protest against the film.

Security has been beefed up outside the office of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Mumbai after Karni Sena workers reached there to stage a protest against the release of the film. A number of fringe group workers have also been detained at the spot.

On Thursday, Karni Sena President Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi had threatened to gherao the CBFC office. Thousands are expected to join the protests through the course of the day. Targetting the Censor Board and its decision to release the film, Sukhdev said, "The CBFC which has been running ever since the time of Britishers doesn't know how to work." The Karni Sena has also demanded the resignation of Prasoon Joshi, the chairman of CBFC. "From the past one and a half year, we have been talking peacefully but now it is time to take up the path of aggression", said Sukhdev.

Karni Sena workers claim that changing the name of the film doesn't suffice.

Protestor outside the CBFC office said, " We don't trust anyone before we have seen the film ourselves. We have faith in our government, but we do not trust the filmmaker. Going by the trailer and whatever we have seen so far, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has hurt Rajput sentiments and glory. " Karni Sena worker also told media that they will continue to protest against the film.

CBFC had given the Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer a U/A certificate and suggested numerous changes including changing the title, from Padmavati to Padmaavat.

The Central Board of Film Certification had an examining committee meeting on December 28, where it was decided at the meeting that the movie will be given a  U/A certification as long as the makers incorporate suggestions and modifications suggested. The changes include those pertaining to disclaimers, one regarding not glorifying the practice of Sati and even relevant modifications in the song Ghoomar.

Karni Sena members continue to protest against Padmaavat and want a complete ban for Bhansali's film. Moreover, the organisation has decided to impose 'Janata Curfew' or people's curfew at cinema halls, which chose to screen the movie. In essence, the activists of the organisation would not let viewers enter cinema halls. The Sena would also approach chief minister of states, including Delhi, to impose a ban.

Kalvi also said that under public pressure distributors would not come forward for the film.

While Padmaavat release has been banned in BJP-ruled Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, Goa on Monday clarified that the movie could be released there. 'Padmavat' has been given a censor certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The state government does not have a problem to screen it in the cinema halls in Goa," Parrikar said even as he added that, in case of any law and order issue, the state would look into it. The Goa Police had expressed apprehension about the film being screened in the state during the peak tourist season. They had written a letter to the state government asking to ban the movie's screening in the state during peak tourist season.
