Pad Man: Twinkle Khanna reveals Akshay Kumar wasn't first choice to play titular role

The first song from Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte, and Sonam Kapoor's new movie Pad Man released amid much fanfare in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Titled 'Aaj Se Teri,' the song is a sweet track about finding love in little things you do for your loved ones.

Along with the cast (minus Sonam Kapoor), director R Balki and producer Twinkle Khanna were also present for the launch of the song composed by Amit Trivedi and sung by Arijit Singh.

During the presentation, Twinkle was asked if her husband, Akshay Kumar, was her first choice to play Lakshmikant Chauhan. That's when she revealed that it was R Balki who convinced her that Akshay is the perfect fit for the role. 

In order to keep trouble away from her marriage. She chose not to reveal who the first choice was. "I did think of a few people. But again the thing is that if we have somebody who the Indian public idealises, and men look up to and he holds a sanitary pad, then it's completely a game-changing event." 

She continued, "I think Akshay, after seeing the movie and see what Balki has made Akshay do, of course Akshay is very talented himself, Balki has brought out the best in him. So I don't think anybody else could have played this as wonderfully as Mr K (Akshay Kumar) here." 

The trailer for the movie came out last week and is garnering a positive response from audience and critics alike.

Pad Man is based on the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham who created a low-cost sanitary napkin making machine. The result was a change in grass-root level awareness about the effects of unhygienic practices around menstruation in India.

The movie is set to release on January 26, 2018
