From the moment the news broke that 12 young Thai soccer players and their 25-year-old coach were stuck in a cave complex near the Myanmar border, the world was glued to the rescue and recovery details. All the trapped men were rescued after an 18-day ordeal in which courageous cave divers battled rains and flooding waters to undertake the dangerous mission. Now, a documentary, Operation Thai Cave Rescue, has been made for the first time on the entire mission with voiceovers from professor Ricky Greenwald — American child trauma psychologist, and Edd Sorenson, Cave Diving Instructor and founding member of the International Underwater Cave Rescue and Recovery (UCRR) Association, who were not a part of the operation.

When asked what impact it could have had on the children, Greenwald says, “During the time of being trapped, it is possible that the kids might have felt scared, discouraged, sad, and possibly also angry or guilty, depending on how they viewed what had happened to them. After the rescue, there are also many possibilities. Along with relief, some of the children may have developed anger, anxiety, fear or other emotions, while few others may become more sensitive or reactive. Some children may also develop in positive ways, by having a greater appreciation for life.”
