Yet another Malayalam actor is looking for a break in Bollywood. After Dulquer Salmaan made his Hindi debut with Karwaan this year, Kochi-based Nivin Pauly is said to have expressed an interest in crossing over. The actor’s Kayamkulam Kochunni, touted to be the most expensive Malayalam film till date, has become a talking point in South even as it nears its date with cinemas this Thursday. The period film set in the early 19th century during the British Raj is based on Travancore’s famed outlaw Kayamkulam Kochunni who robbed from the rich and distributed the wealth among the poor. It seems Nivin has already begun working on his Hindi. He’s reportedly dubbing his next, Moothon (Elder Brother), a bilingual in Hindi and Malayalam directed Geetu Mohandas.

Recently, when asked about the difficulties of crossing the language barrier, he had said, “The language part is always a challenge. For a Malayali actor, making a film in Tamil, Telugu or Hindi will not be very comfortable. I think we should push ourselves by crossing borders. I think every actor should try this in his career.”

Following in the footsteps of his superstar father, Mammooty, Dulquer not only forayed into Malayalam cinema, but also ventured into Bollywood. While his performance in his debut Hindi film earned him praise from the critics and audiences alike, he has bagged his next movie, The Zoya Factor, with Sonam K Ahuja.

Long before Dulquer, his father Malayalam superstar Mammooty had ventured into Bollywood with Dhartiputra (1993). While he acted in barely a handful of Hindi films, his last was a cameo in Halla Bol (2008).

Kochi-based superstar Mohanlal, too, got the notices when he forayed into Bollywood as a top-cop in Company (2002). After the debacle of Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (2007), he was seen in a special appearance in Tezz (2012).
