Here's what Ranbir Kapoor had to say...
Ranbir Kapoor may not have done blame game for the failure of his maiden production, Jagga Jasoos. But his father and veteran superstar Rishi Kapoor vented out his angst against filmmaker Anurag Basu and music composer Pritam for the film's delay and debacle at the box office.
Many felt it wasn't fair on Kapoor senior's part, after all it was the same team who gave Ranbir Kapoor one of his biggest hits Barfi. So the reporters quizzed Ranbir about his father's public angst at the trailer launch of Sanjay Dutt's comeback film Bhoomi. Taking a diplomatic stand, Ranbir Kapoor said, "My father is a very emotional man. Whatever he said was to protect me. I may or may not always agree with everything that he says."
Ranbir may not agree to whatever his father says, but even he spoke about Anurag Basu's chaotic style of working. In AIB podcast, this Kapoor lad had said, " “It’s disorganised chaos. There is no AD system, there’s no script, there’s no schedule. He’ll cancel a 40-day schedule on the third day because he feels it’s not working. When Barfi started, the character I was playing was supposed to be very intense and serious. After 10 days, he suddenly comes to me and says, ‘Maza nahin aaraha yaar. Yeh bahut matlab serious film ho rahin hain. Let’s try and make it more fun’. That’s when the Chaplin and all started coming in. Barfi was successful. So, we forgive that process. So, if Jagga Jasoos does not work, I don’t think this process can be forgiven because it’s irresponsible. You know other people’s time, money (is involved), the other producers waiting for you.” He also says that he regrets producing, calling it a “Big mistake. First and last time. And (Anurag is the) wrong person to produce a film with, because you have no control. And it just makes you feel useless because he is running everything. I can’t take credit for this film. I am very happy I produced this film. I don’t know much about me acting in the film. I don’t know if I am good or not but I am happy to have produced a film like this in India.”
But now busy working on Dutt biopic, Ranbir Kapoor has accepted his failure as a producer and said, "There is no formula to success. I look at it ( Jagga Jasoos's performance) as a learning experience."
A week after Jagga Jasoos, Rishi Kapoor had slammed director Anurag Basu for being "irresponsible" with the film, which was in the making for over three years. Kapoor had also called out Pritam for delivering the music just a week before the film's release. While Anurag Basu maintained a dignified silence, Pritam had said, "I have spent enough time in the industry to not believe any interview verbatim. Unless I get a personal message, I don't believe in anything. Rishi ji is somebody I respect a lot, he is a senior, I've grown up watching his films. On top of it, he is Ranbir's dad. I am in love with Ranbir for his talent and the person he is."
