Looks like the makers of Mr India, touted to be India's first sci-fi film, have finally shelved the much anticipated sequel to the film after the sudden and tragic demise of its lead actress Sridevi. The legendary actress left for heavenly abode back in February this year due to 'accidental drowning' in the bath tub of her hotel room in Dubai. Reportedly, the plabs of making Mr India 2 have been put on the back burner by the producer of the original film - Boney Kapoor and its protaginist - Anil Kapoor

A report on BollywoodHungama quoted a source close to the developments as saying,"It makes no sense to have a sequel without Sridevi. It’s like Mother India without Nargis, Or Agra without the Taj Mahal. Mr India is so closely associated with three main actors Anil Kapoor, Amrish Puri and Sridevi. With two of them gone it would be impossible to recreate the magic of the original. Boney and Anil have decided to call off the sequel plans.”

Not just that, Shekhar Kapur, who helmed the original film back in 1987, told the portal that he hasn't got any idea of what's happening on the plans to make Mr India 2 but also shared that with the demise of Sridevi, there's no chance of going ahead with the sequel. " “I don’t know what is happening with that project or what Boney’s plans are. I was never going to direct the sequel. Now with Sridevi no more, the question doesn’t arise,” Kapur was quoted as saying.

Earlier, several reports had suggested that the sequel to Mr India was in the pipeline and it was to be produced by both Anil and Boney Kapoor. Post Sridevi's fantastic comeback with English Vinglish after 15 years, Boney Kapoor had earlier shared that they were planning a sequel to Mr India with the actress and had also revealed that the script was being worked upon. Now that the actress is no more, it's confirmed that Mr India 2 may never see the light of the day.
