Manikarnika Box Office: Kangana Ranaut's ferocious film is a treat this Republic Day, mints Rs 8.75 crore on Day 1

This Republic Day, Kangana Ranaut has vowed to reat her fans with the patriotic fervour and her ferocious act as Rani Lakshmi Bai in her directorial debut, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. The film, which hit the theatres on Friday got a slightly slow start, but it gathered momentum towards the end of the day and picked up footdfalls in the evening. Manikarnika has managed to rake in a total of Rs 8.75 crore at the box office on day one. 

The film, which chronicles the life and times of Manikarnika aka Manu/Rani Lakshmi Bai, has opened to a positive word of mouth and mostly good reviews. Manikarnika also stars Danny Denzongpa, Ankita Lokhande, Suresh Oberoi amog others. 

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter account to share the box office figures of the film. He wrote, "#Manikarnika picked up towards evening, after an ordinary/dull start in morning... #RepublicDay holiday [today] should witness a big turnaround... Sure, there’s appreciation, but it has to convert into footfalls... Fri ₹ 8.75 cr. India biz. #Hindi #Tamil #Telugu"

Kangana has turned a director with the film and she shares the direction credits with Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi (Krish). Giving insights about Kangana wearing both the actor and the direcor's hat for the film, DNA review of Manikarnika says, "Kangana, who wears two hats — that of the protagonist and the co-director — displays a certain maturity on both counts. As a queen, she displays steely resolve, managing to infuse life into her Laxmibai. The 20-something, for whom the nation came before self, is the kind of martyr you salute with pride. As a director, she shares credit with Krish (of 'Gabbar Is Back' fame) and has assuredly contributed to this big-ticket outing.
