For Fatima Sana Shaikh, travelling involves experiencing all the things that a destination has to offer. “I’ve got to discover a bit of everything during my trip,” says the actress. And that’s evident from the photos that she recently uploaded on her Instagram account, as she holidayed in southern China’s Macao. “It was my first time there. Exploring the place was a really unique and diverse experience for me,” she states. While she has treated fans to images, the Thugs of Hindostan girl shared with us some more images, giving us a glimpse into her escapades.

Culture and entertainment

Ongoing in Macao is the Art Macao International Exhibition, a half-year-long initiative (June to October this year) that hosts exhibits in the Macao Museum of Art and hotel and resort venues. It also features masterpieces by renowned Chinese and overseas artists as well as outdoor installation artworks, apart from the Macao Orchestra and the Macao Chinese Orchestra concert seasons and more.
“I witnessed a potpourri of art and culture via the exhibition and also attended breathtaking entertainment production such as The House of Dancing Water directed by Franco Dragone, which is the largest water show at the City of Dreams on the Cotai Strip,” said she.

Heritage sites

Also on her itinerary were UNESCO Heritage sites such as Senado Square or Senate Square, which is a paved town square named after the Leal Senado, a meeting place for the Chinese and Portuguese in the 16th to 18th centuries. The vicinity boasts of European-styled buildings, of which many are protected monuments.

The 17th-century complex, Ruins of St Paul, in Santo António also figured on her travel plans. Built from 1602 to 1640 by the Jesuits, the church was one of the largest Catholic churches in Asia at the time. Among the most prominent landmarks of Macao, the site includes what was originally St Paul’s College and Church dedicated to Saint Paul, the Apostle.

Food and adventure

The highlight of the trip, Fatima admits, was the food. “I got a chance to try the authentic dishes by the Michelin Star Chefs of The Golden Peacock, Wing Lei and Antonio restaurants,” Fatima informs. However, she also gorged on local delicacies like the Egg Tarts and Almond Cookies. The best part for her was strolling around the outer perimeter of a 233 meters/764 feet high Macau Tower. “I was actually outside the tower in the open and there was no handrail!” she enthuses.

The Dangal girl has also posted pics from A-Ma temple, which is one of the oldest in Macao, and Taipa Village, among other spots.
