Two or more movies releasing on the same date isn’t unusual in Bollywood. With over 200 big films hitting screens every year, and that too in a matter of 52 weeks, box-office clashes are bound to happen. In the next six months itself, there are as many as seven big clashes that the audience will be a witness to...

AUGUST 15: GOLD VS SATYAMEVA JAYATE

This is possibly one of the biggest clashes this season. Akshay Kumar’s Gold releases on Independence Day and had picked the date around a year ago. But little did they know that Bhushan Kumar, too, will decide to release his production venture Satyameva Jayate, starring John Abraham on the same day. Sources say things soured between Akki and Bhushan after the former walked out of the Gulshan Kumar biopic and hence, this is more like a clash of egos. But then again, Akshay and John happen to share a warm bond. We wonder what happens to this one.

AUGUST 31: STREE VS YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA:

Phir Se vs Andhadhun vs Rajma Chawal Shahid Kapoor’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu was the first to take up the spot but even after they moved their film, it’s still a four-way clash at the ticket windows. Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s horror comedy Stree, Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se starring the Deols, along with Rishi Kapoor led Rajma Chawal — all are packed in on the same date. Now Sriram Raghavan’s thriller Andhadhun has also joined in. They say three’s crowd. But what about four?

SEPTEMBER 14: ARJUN PATIALA VS HELICOPTER EELA

It’s a clash of two comedies this September. While Kajol plays a control-freak mother in Helicopter Eela, Dinesh Vijan’s Arjun Patiala introduces another fresh pairing in B-Town — of Kriti Sanon and Diljit Dosanjh.

OCTOBER 19: NAMASTE ENGLAND VS BADHAAI HO

This will be a clash within the YRF clan itself. Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor will be up against Ayushmann Khurrana at the cineplexes this Dussehra. While the Ishaqzaade duo has teamed up for the second time for a laugh riot — Vipul Shah’s Namaste England, Ayushmann will be romancing Dangal girl Sanya Malhotra in Badhaai Ho, which is again in the rom-com space. Who among the friends will turn out a winner? Your guess is as good as ours!

SEPTEMBER 21: BATTI GUL METER CHALU VS MANMARZIYAN

Both these films went through several changes in their release dates. BGMC was initially planned for August 31 but was later moved to August 14, only to realise that it was becoming a three-way clash. Then, they stuck to September 21. On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu-Vicky Kaushal-starrer Manmarziyan was all set to clash with JP Dutta’s Paltan on September 7, but AB Junior didn’t want that and asked the makers to push it ahead by two weeks.

JANUARY 25: SUPER 30 VS MANIKARNIKA: THE QUEEN OF JHANSI VS CHEAT INDIA

Republic Day weekend next year just got overcrowded. With Emraan Hashmi’s Cheat India already planned for a January 25 release, it was Sajid Nadiadwala who decided to move Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30 — a biopic on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar — from its original November date to the R-Day week. But the cherry on top happened to be when Kangana Ranaut decided to clash against her arch-rival and give it a good fight at the ticket windows. The big clash between Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and Super 30 is nothing short of being a personal fight. Now what needs to be seen is who reaches the finishing line first — Hrithik or Kangana!

NOVEMBER 30: KEDARNATH VS 2.0

The last clash of 2018 will possibly be one of the biggest this year. Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer 2.0 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films in recent times. After several delays, the makers announced that the Shankar directed sci-fi project will release on November 30. And that has sent ripples in the industry, with Abhishek Kapoor already feeling the tremors. His next directorial — a tragic love story Kedarnath — toplined by Sushant Singh Rajput will also mark Sara Ali Khan’s debut. The film has already been talked about for all the right and wrong reasons. Now, it needs to be seen if they will shift their release date or stick to the original plan and face the mammoth 2.0 at the BO.
