Karan Johar, who is known to make upmarket romances, has asked the celebrated Sairat director Nagraj Manjule to “guide and instruct” director Shashank Khaitan, who will direct the remake featuring Janvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.
However, Manjule, who is now prepping to direct Amitabh Bachchan in a Hindi film, is reluctant to hop on board. Not even if the one asking is Karan Johar. Apparently, Johar plans to give Sairat an upmarket look. Hence, the girl will no longer be rustic rich. She will be an urban diva, and the boy, though poor, will be a muscled pin-up boy. Says a source close to the project, “When you are launching Sridevi’s daughter you can’t have the heroine playing a village girl. Janvi will be clothed in the best and shot in the most eye-catching locales.” Maybe that’s why Nagraj Manjule excused himself.
