SRK and Anushka Sharma's film will now release on August 4, a week before Akshay Kumar-Bhumi Pednekar film hits screens...
The biggest clash of the year has been avoided! Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma's now titled Jab Harry Met Sejal and Akshay Kumar - Bhumi Pednekar's Toilet- Ek Prem Katha are not going to release on the same date.
With the unveiling of title and posters for JHMS, SRK has announced the new release date of his film too. As now the film won't release along with Toilet on August 11 anymore. Instead, the film will hit screens on August 4, a week ahead of the original release date. While Shah Rukh and Akshay fans are cheering, we are sure SRK is also breathing a sigh of relief. And here's why -
Free date:
Initially, August 4 was taken up by Aamir Khan to release his smaller film - A Secret Superstar - starring Dangal girl Zaira Wasim alongwith the actor. But then, he decided to shift the date to Diwali 2018 where it will clash with Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again. As the August 4 date was completely free, SRK and team lapped it up immediately. As now SRK's film gets a week's run without any interruption.
No division of business:
When two superstars clash at the box office, there is definite tension in the industry. Given that superstars are the biggest reasons to draw in revenue for their films in the first three-four day weekend, a clash just gets the attention and the business divided. Take any example and you will understand how the businesses get divided when two big films release on the same day. With SRK coming a week ahead now, it will get a clean run for a week before Akshay's film hits theatres. And the opening weekend and the opening week figures would be way higher.
Setting an example:
Even in the last Raees- Kaabil clash, SRK proved that he's the bigger star puller, given that his film did way better than Hrithik's film, even without critics appreciation. Trade pundits were certain that the opening weekend would have been on the higher side for SRK and from Monday onwards, the content would have taken over. Imtiaz Ali's films are known for their content and Toilet's trailer has been loved by the people who've watched it. So by averting this clash, Shah Rukh has set a new example in the industry that clash and ego brawls can be avoided and without your film eating into other's film revenue.
Two big holidays:
Now that SRK - Anushka's Kab Harry Met Sejal is hitting screens on August 4, you have to notice how it will enjoy a 4 day extended weekend. Alongwith the Friday - Saturday - Sunday pulling in huge numbers, SRK film also gets additional Monday (August 7) in the form of holiday for Rakshabandhan. In the second weekend too, given that it's a content heavy film, JHMS is expected to do well despite Toilet's release. And there is another, holiday for Independence Day in the second week as well.
So commercially, August 4 seems like a way better date to release Jab Harry Met Sejal than clashing with Toilet Ek Prem Katha and releasing it on August 11.
