Rani Mukerji returned to the big screen after motherhood with Hichki. The film saw her playing a teacher, who deals with Tourette Syndrome and changes the lives of students from the economically-backwards strata. While the movie garnered appreciation here, it has gone on to become a blockbuster in China after racing past the Rs 100-crore mark. The audiences there have loved Rani’s performance. No wonder, it has been recording great collections since its release.

Hichki, which has been titled Teacher With Hiccup for its Chinese release, hit the screens there on October 12 and is all set to have a solid third weekend. Rani promoted the film extensively across various cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Chengdu.

The actress says, “Good cinema has no language barriers and it connects with the hearts and minds of the audience. The success of Hichki in China proves just that. We knew we had made a special film, but for it to get so much love and acclaim from audiences across the globe is an extremely proud and humbling moment for all of us. I congratulate my producer Maneesh Sharma and my director Siddharth P Malhotra for creating a gem of a film whose universal message of love has struck a chord with the audiences in China now.”

Besides acclaim in India, the film has also been screened at international film festivals. It received a standing ovation at the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) where Rani was also bestowed with the Best Actress award.
