Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced on Saturday that Rajinikanth will be bestowed with special Icon of Golden Jubilee award at the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2019).

Superstar Rajinikanth has been ruling the hearts of the people across the globe for more than four decades now. He made his acting debut in the year 1975 with K. Balachander's Apoorva Raagangal in which he starred alongside Kamal Haasan, Major Sundarrajan, Srividya and Jayasudha in the lead roles. Soon after that, there was no turning back for Rajini and he went on to work in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi languages.
Now, in honour of his amazing film career Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced on Saturday that Rajinikanth will be bestowed with special Icon of Golden Jubilee award at the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2019). He wrote on Twitter, "In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, during the past several decades, I am happy to announce that the award for the ICON OF GOLDEN JUBILEE OF #IFFI2019 is being conferred on cine star Shri S Rajnikant. IFFIGoa50"

Rajinikanth also thanked the Government of India for the honour. He tweeted, "I thank the government of India for this prestigious honour bestowed upon me on the golden jubilee of the International film festival of India #IFFI2019"

Meanwhile, on the work front, Rajinikanth will next be seen in Darbar in which he plays the role of a cop. The superstar will be donning police uniform after 27 years on the big screen. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the film stars Nayanthara as the female lead. It's releasing on January 15, 2020.
