At just 20, CarryMinati (real name Ajey Nagar) was included in the list of Next Generation Leaders 2019 by Time magazine this year. He was one of the only 10 global young names charting a new path in politics, music, etc. It’s especially a big feat for the YouTuber because he has been creating content for his channel for just over three years, and has more than 8 million followers.

The content creator, however, is unaffected by his popularity. Carry says, “I remain grounded as I know the worth of this fame. As an individual, just you are not responsible for it; there are millions of people and fans involved.” He now has a chance to interact with those fans at the maiden edition of Social Nation, an event that brings content creators and followers together, to celebrate the emergence of internet sensations and communities. “I love opportunities where I can interact with my fans off-screen. I look forward to performing in my CarryMinati style,” says he, alluding to his content, which is typically commentaries, roasts, rants and reaction videos.

Though Carry has gained popularity as a creator in the last couple of years, he has been uploading videos since 2008, as a way of dealing with the pressures of school life. He admits that he still revisits his initial clips. “It’s nostalgia! I watch them to get my motivation back. Though, I can see the difference between the older and the current videos,” he points out. The YouTuber’s content is loud and filled with expletives. But not many know that he shows them to his parents before uploading them. “They are extremely supportive and always fine with the colourful language since I don’t use it in my day-to-day life or in front of them. They understand it’s used purely for entertainment,” he divulges. Besides, he believes, “You have to be yourself. In the beginning, I used to copy other people but then I started showing myself — who I am, the way I am, my language, my humour,” he states.

Apart from roasts and rants, Carry has a gaming channel CarryIsLive, on which he streams live for two hours at night. He is also working on launching more songs after dishing out two tracks Bantai Rapper and Carryminati Rap Song in the past. “I want to have great growth in rapping next year,” says he.

Being popular has meant he cannot do many things that people his age do. For instance, when he goes for movies, he often has to wear sunglasses and cover his face. “Sometimes I wish I could go out like other regular people but it’s fine as this is all because of fame, which is what I wanted in the first place,” he clarifies. Carry is also thankful about not having to wake up early in the morning to attend college. “I don’t exactly miss doing all the things that 20-year-olds do,” he signs off.
